Good morning blog readers! This weekend has been very interesting. Below is my second to last blog post about my internship:
July 23, 2011
After a hectic week of planning and last minute purchases and paperwork, today was finally the day that my charity kickball event was to commence. I had no idea how many people would come. One of my biggest fears was that only 10 people would show up and I would look like the lamest guy on the planet. I ran into a few obstacles. For one, the people at the park told me that I had neglected to reserve bases for the field. I thought that was included, but I should have checked. This led to us having to do bases the elementary school way, just drawing a box for where it was supposed to be. Also, the food people were about 30 minutes late. While this might not seem like a big deal to some people, they have obviously not been faced with hungry office people who were promised free food. This led to a little improvisation on my part.
I had some teams play while other teams would wait in the wings to play. By the time the food came, everyone had finished the first game and was able to eat, but unfortunately, I forgot the napkins. My team didn’t win the tournament by a long shot and I know I was a pretty unbearable teammate. However, the event was an overall success with our Sales team winning the whole tournament. They received a plaque and bragging rights. I hope I can put on the event next summer because it was pretty enjoyable. I also know now what pitfalls to avoid and how to do it better. All in all, I think the event went well for it being the first event of its kind at the office and my first time planning an event. I received a lot of help along the way and I appreciated every single ounce of it. However, before I could reflect on everything, I was packing up all of the stuff and trying to catch a quick shower. A bunch of people in my department had Giants tickets so you already know I had to be there. That was a fun night too and I’ll leave it at that.
